The State Department announced that President Obama has denied the Keystone XL pipeline stating that it was not int the national interest at this time . The Keystone pipeline, would have created 20,000 jobs and infused billions of dollars into the economy. Obama gave some indication during his jobs council meeting yesterday that he would probably not approve the project.
This appears to be another political move by the President, blaming Republicans for pressing for the decision and not leaving enough time to assess the environmental impact. Fact is that the State Department has been studying this project for almost three years and last year Secretary of State Hillary Clinton during a speech in California said she was inclined to approve the project. The rerouting in Nebraska has also been agreed to between the Nebraska legislature and TranCanada Pipeline.
Obama said about the rejection: “I’m disappointed that Republicans in Congress forced this decision.”
While Republicans pressed for the decision by February 21st, there was no timeline on the rerouting portion of the pipeline in Nebraska. So that argument is bogus.
