A Chinese man who was deported from Canada after more than a decade on the run has been found guilty of contract fraud and sentenced to 15 years in jail.
Zeng Hanlin fled to Canada in 1999 after being charged in relation to a failed business merger. He fought unsuccessfully for refugee status and was deported last February when Canada ruled his fear of the death penalty and an unfair trial were unfounded.
Zeng’s son said Friday that his father’s trial was not fair. He said no journalists were allowed into court.
