Meghan McCain: If Santorum wins the nomination, it will be bedlam like you’ve never seen

With the help of a few friends on Twitter, I’ve been making a list of people I turn to for infallibly insightful political analysis, and, so far, it goes a little something like this: Alec Baldwin, Matt Damon, Michael Moore and Kelly Clarkson. Add to that … Meghan McCain. Here she is again, on the possibility of an actual Rick Santorum nomination. “It will be bedlam and hysteria like you’ve never seen,” she says. Bedlam and hysteria? Really? It would rock the Republican Party that much to nominate someone other than the pre-ordained candidate? To be fair, McCain’s comments on the path to the nomination for Romney make sense to me. He didn’t shine as brilliantly in Iowa as he might have had he decided to make the state a priority sooner than December, but he did what he [...]

On to New Hampshire

On to New Hampshire

Up to this point, the sheer size of the GOP presidential field has actually been somewhat of an asset. It’s a positive to have anywhere from six to nine national potentially presidential figures making the case for the conservative cause to voters across the country. Granted, some of the candidates have espoused conservative principles more accurately and/or more effectively than others, but, by and large, all the GOP candidates have, at one time or another, pounded the president on jobs and the economy and reminded voters they’re generally not better off now than they were four years ago. But now that the primaries have more or less begun, it’s a different situation. Voters have begun to express their preferences. Candidates with paltry support serve only to keep their few diehard [...]

Huntsman on McCain’s endorsement of Romney: “Nobody cares”

Huntsman on McCain’s endorsement of Romney: “Nobody cares”

Made me laugh, even though (a) Maverick won New Hampshire twice so clearly some voters do care; (b) a candidate who can’t crack 13 percent in a state to which he’s completely committed probably shouldn’t goof on anyone else for being marginal; (c) this is a guy who once sent out not one but two press releases touting a “major endorsement” that ended up coming from … Jeb Bush’s son. Still, needling McCain is an evergreen pleasure. “I have great regard for Sen. McCain. I love the man. But it’s another example of establishment piling on,” Huntsman told reporters at Globe Incorporated, a first-responder fire suit manufacturer today. “It seems the more establishment piles on, Dole, McCain, all the rest, nobody cares. Nobody cares about this. I mean, none of the [...]

Some find hope in Afghan outcry over bride’s abuse

Tweet Just 15 years old, Sahar Gul has become the bruised and bloodied face of women's rights in Afghanistan. The teenage bride's eyes were swollen nearly shut as she was wheeled into the hospital seven months after her arranged marriage. Black scabs crusted her fingertips where her nails used to be.According to officials in northeastern Baghlan province, Gul's in-laws kept her in a basement for six months, ripped her fingernails out, tortured her with hot irons and broke her fingers _ all in an attempt to force her into prostitution. Police freed her after her uncle called authorities. The horrific images, captured by television news cameras last week, transfixed Afghanistan and set off a storm of [...]
