A prize-winning light bulb that lasts for 20 years is going on sale in the US on Sunday – also known as Earth Day. Made by Dutch electronics giant Philips, the bulb swaps filaments for light-emitting diodes to provide illumination. Using LEDs endows the light with a long life and a hefty price tag. The first versions are set to cost $60 Philips has arranged discounts with shops that will sell the bulb meaning some could buy it for only $20 Production ban The bulb triumphed in the Bright Tomorrow competition run by the US Department of Energy that aimed to find an energy efficient alternative to the 60-watt incandescent light bulb. North Korea Warns South of Attack

North Korea's military vowed a new and unusually specific threat to its neighbors, saying it would reduce South Korea "to ashes" in less than four minutes. The statement, released Monday when programming was interrupted on North Korea's state TV by a special report, comes amid rising tensions on the Korean peninsula. Earlier this month, North Korea was unsuccessful in a long-range missile launch, prompting worries that North Korea may conduct another nuclear test. South Korean officials say new satellite images show that North Korea has been digging a tunnel in what appears to be preparation for a third atomic test. Daily Presidential Tracking Poll – Obama 47, Romney 45

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Saturday shows that 27% of the nation’s voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as president. Forty percent (40%) Strongly Disapprove, giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -13 (see trends). Seventy percent (70%) of Republicans Strongly Disapprove, while 57% of Democrats Strongly Approve. Among voters not affiliated with either major party, 17% Strongly Approve, and 43% Strongly Disapprove.
