Rasmussen: Dem party affiliation at all-time low
Perhaps the report of a general retreat on party affiliation was a bit exaggerated — at least for one of the two parties. Rasmussen’s latest monthly survey of 15,000 respondents for party affiliation shows Republicans gaining more than a percentage point from November to December and nearing the year-long high, while Democrats declined to the lowest level in the Rasmussen series: The number of Republicans in the country increased by a percentage point in December, while the number of Democrats fell back two points to the lowest level ever recorded by Rasmussen Reports. During December, 35.4% of Americans considered themselves Republicans. That’s up from 34.3% in November and just below the high for the year of 35.6% reached in May. At the same time, just 32.7% of adults said [...]
Santorum surge fuels fundraising boost
It’s been a happy holiday season for Rick Santorum. Not only has he risen to a respectable third in the Iowa polls, but he’s managed to monetize his mounting momentum, too. His surge has been a magnet for delayed-decision donors and other contributors. Political Ticker reports: A senior Santorum adviser tells CNN the campaign raised more money in the last week than they raised on-line the past six months, adding that fundraising is between 300% and 400% higher on a daily basis than it was just ten days ago. Santorum talked about his rising financial fortunes, at a campaign event Monday morning in Polk City, Iowa. “I would just stay this: We have raised more money in the last few days than we have in the last few months. And going from zero to 60 in the polls, if you will, will help [...]
Bachmann: Never mind Iowa, I’m in it for the long haul
One reason I’ve been eager and impatient for the Iowa caucuses is that I assumed at least a couple candidates would reconsider their presidential bids based on the results. But that looks to be increasingly improbable. Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich are too viable to be discouraged by early upsets, Rick Santorum is poised to exceed expectations, Ron Paul has never been deterred by his unlikelihood to secure the nomination, Rick Perry considers Iowa to be the equivalent of the first mile of a marathon and Jon Huntsman says New Hampshire picks presidents. That leaves Michele Bachmann, who has clung to her August Ames Straw Poll victory as evidence that she has support in the Hawkeye State that isn’t reflected in the current polls. If that turns out to not be true — and she finishes, [...]
Alan Colmes: The way Santorum dealt with the death of his child sure was crazy
You’d think liberals would want to pull their punches against Santorum until he’s built up enough momentum nationally to complicate life for Romney, yet here’s Colmesy throwing an uppercut straight to the groin. Pure instinctual ideological bloodlust? Or … is this actually a sly bit of jujitsu in which AC, through a calculated display of jerkiness, forces the viewer to sympathize with Santorum, thus giving him another little boost before tomorrow night? It’s good cop/bad cop co-starring Rich Lowry. Fiendishly clever! No, I kid. Obviously, it’s bloodlust. That’s the first clip; the second clip, via the Right Scoop, has Santorum talking about his son’s death a few months ago in an interview with Piers Morgan. I don’t know where Colmes is getting the idea that they brought [...]
And the Obamateurism of the Year for 2011 is …

In the end, it wasn’t even close. The winning entry got more than twice as many votes as the runner-up, which was Barack Obama’s lament about being held to a higher standard for leadership on freedom than, er, communist China’s Hu Jintao. The winner got 55% of all votes cast in the poll, which surprised me — even though I knew when this came out that it would almost certainly win the coveted 2011 Obamateurism of the Year: And now, a musical salute to our President that this award practically demands: We’ll get started again tomorrow on OOTDs, some of which came over the two-week polling break, and as always, come from our dedicated OOTD research team — our readers. Thanks for a fun 2011, and we’ll look forward to more laughs in 2012! Update: Or maybe this is a better [...]
