Minority Leader Pelosi calls for Anthony Weiner ethics inquiry over Lewd Photos

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Rep. Steve Israel, the chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, are calling for an investigation into Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) over the series of sexually explicit conservations and lewd photos he exchanged with a half-dozen women during the last several years. “I am deeply disappointed and saddened about this situation; for Anthony’s wife, Huma, his family, his staff and his constituents,” Pelosi said in a statement released on Monday night. “I am calling for an Ethics Committee investigation to determine whether any official resources were used or any other violation of House rules occurred.” Israel added: “Congressman Anthony Weiner engaged in a deep personal failure and inappropriate [...]
Pelosi: I don’t plan to stay in this new, smaller office for long

Candygram for Nancy from TNR’s Ed Kilgore: Get comfortable. We can’t be precise about how all of this will shake out. But it is reasonably clear that, to take back the House in 2012, Democrats would have to approximate the feat they pulled off in the banner year of 2006 while facing a changed and more hostile political map. Redistricting aside, a number of places where veteran Blue Dog Democrats lost in 2010—including three in Tennessee, two in Mississippi, and one each in Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, and Alabama—are heavily Republican districts that are very unlikely to flip back in the foreseeable future. The Senate picture for Democrats in 2012 is not much better, for the simple reason that 23 of the 33 seats that will be contested then are currently held by [...]
By endorsing the Pelosi discredited regime, Democrats show they still don't get it

Last week, by a vote of 143-50, Rep. Nancy Pelosi of California was overwhelmingly elected leader of the Democratic minority for the next Congress over token opposition from Rep. Heath Shuler of North Carolina. Democrats also reelected the rest of their House leadership team, even though they had just suffered their worst electoral defeat since 1938. The vote showed that most Democrats still believe they did nothing to deserve their stunning electoral defeat this month. They blame the economy instead of their policies, and they have apparently convinced themselves that there's no relationship between the two. While President Obama did inherit a difficult economy, the situation has grown worse in the years since. The recovery has been shallower than expected. We have lost more [...]
Is Pelosi America’s Least Popular Politician?

House Democrats voted Wednesday to keep House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California as their leader, despite a challenge from Representative Heath Shuler of North Carolina, a Blue Dog Democrat. After yesterday’s article in which I pointed out that, indeed, there was evidence that health care bill and the federal bailout package had hurt Democrats in this month’s elections — a conclusion that a lot of our readers considered to be self-evident — I’m a bit reluctant to belabor another obvious point. But this just in: Ms. Pelosi is not very popular with the American public. Quinnipiac University had a poll out this morning that showed Ms. Pelosi’s favorability rating at 25 percent and her unfavorable rating at 55 percent. This rating is quite a bit worse on balance [...]
Pelosi adds 1 to Jobs Created: Clyburn has new job “Assistant Leader”

After a week-long campaign for Minority Whip, current Democratic House Leadership reached an agreement on Friday whereby the current Majority Whip, Congressman James E. Clyburn will continue in a leadership position as the Democratic majority shifts to Republican hands at the start of the 112th Congress. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was actively engaged in brokering a deal between current Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) and Congressman Clyburn. “Should I receive the privilege of serving as House Democratic Leader, I will be very honored to nominate our outstanding colleague, Congressman Jim Clyburn of South Carolina, to serve in the number three House Democratic position,” said Pelosi. Clyburn will remain the highest ranking African American in the House of [...]
