Saudi National Cleared in Boston Bombing Fox news and CNN are reporting that Federal law enforcement official confirms that the Saudi national has been “ruled out” as a suspect in bombing. Media Credit: New York Times The person questioned in the hospital was a Saudi national, who was reportedly tackled and held by a bystander after he was seen running from near the scene of the explosion, said a law enforcement source who spoke with someone involved in the FBI’s investigation. Kerry to visit Middle East will skip Israel
U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry will visit the Middle East and other countries from February 24- March 6. He will visit Britain, Egypt, France, Germany, Italy, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar. The State Department spokesperson stated that Kerry will visit Israel during Obama's visit later in March John Kerry will tour the Middle East during his first foreign tour as U.S. secretary of state, but will visit Israel two weeks later with President Obama. Kerry's itinerary, announced Tuesday for his Feb. 24-March 6 trip, includes Britain, Germany, France, Italy, Turkey, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar. U.S., Saudi Arabia strike $30 billion arms deal
The Obama administration on Thursday announced an arms deal with Saudi Arabia valued at nearly $30 billion, an agreement that will send 84 F-15 fighter jets and assorted weaponry to the kingdom. The administration notified Congress last year of its intent to sell advanced weaponry to Saudi Arabia, a key U.S. ally in the Middle East and a strategic bulwark against Iran. Iran has been flexing it muscles with a recent naval exercise in the Strait of Hormuz. So far sanctions have not worked to convince Iran to stop its pursuit of nuclear weapons. This has given food for thought both to the U.S. and its allies, Israel and Saudi Arabia in the Middle East. While it is widely believed that Israel has nuclear capability, Saudi Arabia has signed a nuclear proliferation treaty. As Minister of Defense and Aviation for almost 50 years, Crown Prince Sultan dedicated himself to the welfare and security of his people and country and was a valued friend of the United States. He was a strong supporter of the deep and enduring partnership between our two countries forged almost seven decades ago in the historic meeting between President Roosevelt and King Abd al-Aziz Al Saud. On behalf of the American people, I extend my deepest condolences to King Abdullah, the royal family, and the people of Saudi Arabia.
